About This Game

Six months had passed since Mira's father disappeared and was presumed dead. The other day an old computer of his showed up mysteriously. It's unlike any computer she had seen before and convinced her the answer to his disappearance could be found on it. As the last person with any hope of her father's survival, she eagerly began investigating.

Project RyME is a puzzle adventure game where you investigate a strange, old computer to get to the bottom of Mira's father's disappearance. With the help of some interesting allies, use a variety of techniques to hack your way into systems that might have clues. Over the course of the investigation you'll experience at least a dozen different game genres.

Navigate a simulated desktop computer's windowing system
Use the command terminal to access other computers, run advanced operations and explore the network.
Hack into various systems using techniques inspired by real cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Chat with your allies to discuss strategies, review clues and talk about your favorite anime.
Play through a variety of digital worlds and minigames that are tightly woven into the story.
An interactive tutorial and extensive in-game resources make Project RyME accessible even for those without much knowledge about computers.

I've still barely made it past the tutorial, but it's making me dust off my old command line and scripting skills so definitely promising.

I've always been a sucker for any kind of puzzle game based around an old-timey desktop computer or command-line hacking interface, and this one definitely stands out from the pack. There's admittedly a fair number of bugs (particularly one on day 2 where I somehow broke the chat program scripting in a way that prevented any new messages from coming through and forced me to restart the day), and a few of the puzzle mechanics could be better explained (it took me way longer than it really should have to figure out how to work the [spoiler]auth_timer[/spoiler] command on day 4), but the writing, atmosphere, and overall enjoyable and engaging gameplay all kept me hooked through the few minor issues that cropped up during my playthrough. Definitely going on my list of small super-obscure indie games I'm going to be constantly recommending to friends.
