About This Game

Otteretto is a puzzle game about palindromes (and otters).

New Puzzle Concept

This isn't another Match-3 game; it's a whole new idea to wrap your head around! How long of a palindrome can you make?

5 Endlessly-Replayable Game Modes

Classic: Try to reach each level's score goal in the addictive original mode.

The Daily Stack: Join a global competition every day! How many points can you get from the same set of squares as everyone else?

Puzzle: Use logical reasoning to figure out how to turn a set of squares into a single, massive palindrome!

Containment: With more squares being added every move, how long can you keep the container from overflowing?

Walls: In this challenging variant, you'll need to get creative to work around each level's impassable walls.

a toyota's a toyota and otteretto is an endless palindrome-based score attack matching game. a valid selection would be red-green-blue-green-red, the same sequence from both ends, not necessarily in a straight line. the in-game interactive 'how to play' section explains the basics (so what I just said), a single tile also counts and gravity plays a role, stuff on top of cleared blocks falls down. no x in nixon, but taking notes is possible. you can mark sequences and only clear one by clicking a newly-appeared tick button. turning the pencil off lets you mess with other tiles but clicking a marked one turns the pencil back on and clearing marked tiles doesn't always remove the marks, they will appear over the new blocks. marking multiple sequences makes the tick disappear and you either have to manually remove them until only one remains, or bring up the pause menu to remove them all. why is this so finicky? just add these buttons to the top of the screen as well....

Edit: The developer added a very useful feature upon a request made by me and +1'd by a few other people on the discussion board, making this an even more great game.. so I figured I'd add my thanks for that in this review, in hopes that other potential buyers will see this and be further encouraged to try out the game. Original review below. - I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. I initially sent the link for the store page to a friend saying like "look at this, you have to create palindromes to match and clear blocks. This would hurt my brain so much." But I ended up getting it anyway, and I love it. For those who don't know, a palindrome is a pattern that reads the same forward and backward. Usually it describes a word or a phrase, where the letters (usually not including spaces) follow this pattern. Something as simple as "taco cat" to something much longer like "Are we not drawn onward, we few, drawn onward to new era?" Trust me, if you read backward starting fr...

Everything a puzzle game should be. Strong core idea with a good scoring system, lots of room for strategy, unique game modes, suitably simple art style that doesn't distract you and lets you get into the groove with it. Solid buy.

I fucking hate puzzle games, except this one. Also, vertical screen support yay.

A fun game with an interesting concept. I enjoyed the "clear-all" puzzle mode. Not sure i'm going to be hooked forever but enjoyable for a quick casual pickup. A button to clear all notes would be helpful.

Hits all the right brain folds that fans of puzzlers know so well. The dopamine hit of a big point palindrome slots right in there with the likes of a perfect Tetris T-Spin or Lumines combo. Easy recommend for the price. Simple in concept but able to present true depth of challenge. You'll find yourself learning the algorithms to search for the two ends of the palindrome & connect from there. The 'puzzle' mode is perhaps the best method of teaching this, giving you the ability to sketch your way through some wicked palindromes that are many dozens of tiles long. Relaxing - not fighting a timer, but going primarily for score. Ambient music provided but well suited to muting & rolling your own soundtrack. A visualizer of some sort in the background would be welcome, but not needed.

I've been playing it on the mobile since it was called Ogopogo! :D So nice to see all the new mods and tile styles, can't wait to play them all!

Fundamentally a really strong idea that's supported by a solid game structure. The clean, bright visuals work well to support the gameplay and the audio treatment is really fun (although there is no music). It's a slow and pensive game. It's a bit more puzzly than I initially expected because it looks a bit like a match-3 game which are generally a bit faster paced. If you're into games like word search or similar style pattern hunting games then this will be up your alley. For the general public I think it's also easy to recommend because it's so easy to understand and the puzzle process is quite fun. One technical issue I had is that it didn't run smoothly for me in fullscreen at 4k. Which was a bit surprising. Windowed mode is locked to a set resolution but that didn't bother me too much.

I never write reviews, but after spending 40+ hours on this game I feel like I should say something nice :) I keep coming back to this game for a number of reasons. It's just the right balance of simplicity and complexity, the scoring system and achievements make it addicting, and the puzzle variations give it tons of replayability. The level of polish on this game is also amazing. The sounds are especially great; solving puzzles almost has a musical feel since every color plays a unique note when you touch it. Something I wished I knew earlier that really enhances my enjoyment of the game (specifically for classic mode): use the note-taking tool in combination with removing one tile at a time to set up longer chains. Maybe obvious for some, but it took me a while to figure out how people were getting such high scores :) If you are a fan of puzzle games you owe it to yourself to get Otteretto!
