I've wiped my old review clean and am going to be much more concise in this one - having played both the Steam and Switch versions of the game now, I can firmly say that if you plan to play this game at all, the Switch version is the way to go - though I would skip out on both. It has less RNG bullshit in it and the controls simply make more sense and it has overall less bugs, however... Upon a second playthrough of Jin Conception (once on Steam, once on Switch), I can confidently say that... while there is some good here, the cons just definitely outweigh the bad. Even knowing the answers of who is friend and foe, there is virtually no way in the game to actually deduce this naturally. I had the benefit of speaking with the developer during my playthrough and was able to speak with him afterwards to try and clear up some misconceptions and unfortunately the conversation only proved to clarify what I feared: the story is in fact incomplete, with much of it simply not in the game...

I'm really hoping more work is done to this title in the future. There's no settings menu so discovering the controls was a pain. I don't recommend the game solely on the fact that in the 45 minutes I was playing the game, it crashed 4 times during fights.

Jin Conception is a Social Deduction JRPG, or so we're told. What I believed would potentially have loops, betrayals, and other sorts of mind-boggling narratives certainly fell short in delivering those aspects. Narrative and exposition is non-existent. Character development and motivations are flimsy at best and often times very shallow. Some elements of the story could only be understood by reading the "Story" summary function in the menu. Many elements of the game design and concept are obscure or even unexplained (and possibly unexplored). I don't believe we found a single comma in the entire script... The combat is not balanced and not well-explained. The initial reaction to seeing the elements of the HUD would lead anyone to believe that the battle system would resemble a Chrono Trigger style ATB, it even shares dual and triple tech style spells. In truth, the battle system seems like a weird buggy turned-based system that uses an "attack turn" bar that works independently of en...

Game is real rough around the edges. Spelling mistakes, constant crashes, the UI is quite clunky. There are no tutorials in the game and the game often doesn't tell you what to do besides vague mentions of locations of places you've never seen or heard of. There is barely any world building or exposition and the story just consists of characters talking to each other for a couple of seconds. I'm six hours hours into the game and the "social aspect" of the game hasn't shown up yet despite being advertised as a big feature of this game. The battle system tries to be Chrono Trigger-esque but it comes off as a bad middle ground between turn based and active-turn based. There is a turn-based bar but it fails to fill up on your turn. Double/triple techs can only be performed when your party members have a filled up ATB bar but the game does not tell you how to make your teammates ATB bar fill up because waiting on your turn does nothing. So why is it not turn based? Because enemies can ran...

I reallllly wanted to like this game. I first saw this game and thought it looked super fun. Upon playing it, it was SO confusing and I was so disappointed. When done correctly pixel graphic games are very visually pleasing to me and so cute to play. But this game...the controls were confusing, the story was confusing. I read a review also here (Which I had read before deciding to purchase the game) that said the dev said the story was incomplete which really makes sense, because I don't understand what is going on at all in the game. I hate to say this, but I would really suggest not purchasing this game (Please don't) and looking into so many other games that have the label RPG and pixel graphics style and are beautiful AND have the story most who plays these type of games are looking for. note: This is no hate to the game, or the devs at all, I just want others to not be disappointed as I was.

Recommening that, with a lot of buts. Pros: + Real-time Combat itself is incredibly great - using buffs, debuffs and ailments is mandatory to get through + Lots of comboing opportunities due to that, quite challenging (with a special opportunity in lovlevel-runs to set things straight) + Walking through Dungeons feels refreshing due to some puzzles in them,=> not headache-inducing! + Approach of Open World is fine as is + looks good or a retro RPG, with a lot of work put in animations and immersion Cons: - sadly, Vote Friend/Foe is a big issue, hard to figure out due to the nature of the characters / and it was definitely not what it was advertised like - speaking of the characters - most of them behave in a rather erratic way, making the hard to comprehend - the story is okay, but not quite thought through - and even if, there are a lot of open ends In short: It's not as bad as it looks like. One can work with the somewhat weird storyline and the erratic characters, but it's the...
