About This Game

What is Undead Darlings?

Journey with and learn more about a crew of half-zombie girls through visual novel sequences and as you crawl through dungeons, beating up twisted creatures that were born from the fall of society in fast-paced turn-based RPG combat, and ultimately deliver the only known cure for what ails your party members to a place where it can be mass produced!

The visual novel portion contains a multitude of branching dialogue paths that, based on the choices you make, gives deeper insight into the different characters, whereas the RPG portion of the game uses a familiar but refined turn-based battle system with unique twists. Both of these gameplay features are contained within a dungeon crawler, meaning dungeons are explored from a first-person perspective in four cardinal directions, with the dungeon itself built like a maze and filled with traps and hidden paths.

Story

The story of Undead Darlings ~no cure for love~ revolves around Reginald "Reggie" P. Happenstahnce and his journey to take the cure for the zombie plague someplace safe; somewhere it can be mass-produced. His father—one of the scientists purported to be involved in the outbreak's inception—created this cure and left it behind before leaving on his own for the same purpose.

The game opens with Reggie waking up from an alcohol-related coma (courtesy of his own father, no less) and being told by his childhood friend Pearl that society had crumbled due to a virus outbreak that turned most everyone into zombies while he was sleeping. This includes Pearl herself. However, Pearl has managed to hold onto her human conscience, and she relates that she is not the only one this has happened to. As with every half-zombie Reggie will run into, she may be undead, but her heart is still human.

Your role as Reggie is to be the girls’ loot donkey and carry the things they find in dungeons. Since Reggie is a human, the girls will prevent him from getting infected by fighting in the front lines! Go them!

While on this adventure, you will learn more about the undead girls' lives from before the outbreak, but whose tale you will hear is based on the choices you make during the visual novel scenes. Perhaps one of them will connect with you, open up about their hardships, and maybe even develop romantic feelings... The ultimate result of these interactions will determine whether or not any of these girls trust you enough to take the biggest risk of their undead lives—volunteer to be the first test subject for your father's cure!

Key Features

  • Explore a multitude of complex post-apocalyptic dungeons—a total of over 20 huge floors to explore! Discover loot, secret event scenes based on your current battle party, and more!
  • Become invested in a novel-sized epic adventure—a script of over 300,000 words and more branching dialogue choices than you can shake your boomstick at await! The adventure is filled with comedy, slices of romantic life, and the horrors associated with surviving the zombie apocalypse from a zombie’s perspective!
  • All character art has been specifically drawn inverted as well, so you never get pulled from the story because someone's scar magically switched shoulders (inverted art vs. mirrored art—never spoken of because it is hardly ever utilized...until now!)
  • Key events give you the chance to grow closer to the girls, and by doing so, you will access specific character story arcs that come with gorgeous HD images of the characters for you to unlock! Over 20 unlockable images in total—gotta collect 'em all!
  • Six playable, awesome half-zombie girls lead the charge!
  • Nine endings based on your choices and how close you grow with the characters!
  • No currency or stores exist in the post-apocalypse, so you will need to fill up your war chest by finding loot in dungeons. Be careful, though—weaponry will break if used too much!
  • Loot system supplies you with armor, items, and weaponry. Weapons come in both Common and Rare varieties—but both come with durability counts that indicate how much abuse they can take.
  • Rare weapons may have Skills attached, adding a bit of flexibility in balancing out an effective battle party!
  • Exploit multiple enemy weaknesses simultaneously in the unique Exponential Exploitation battle mechanic! Increase your damage multiplier and utilize it for a one-time attack that can deal tremendous damage!
  • Set up custom battle strategies with the Macro function! Use this wisely in tandem with the EE System to create efficient tactics against your current roster of foes!
  • When all is said and done, you will enjoy a 50-hour adventure unlocking everything!

Everything of this game is a pain in the arse. From battle mechanics to map settings to gameplays, none I can enjoy casually. On top of that, completion rewards you with little to no satisfaction. Give or take, about 70% of the dialogues are not even voiced. Covers the lack of content by using dumb dungeon mechanics to stall progress. On average to complete the later dungeons you'll probably waste 3-4 hours of your life along with 50+ pitfall drops. Doesn't show controls, doesn't allow change of keys. doesn't show anything that indicates your affection with girls. I completed the game yet still have no idea how to retrieve stashed items. I was 10 hours in when I realize you can press "tab" to show floor map. Unless there's at least an 80% discount, don't even bother getting it. Only people who give positive reviews are those who either never completed the game or received the product for free.

The game had a lot of promise; cute girls, interesting turn-based combat and witty, if not very slightly cliche at time, dialogue. Unfortunately, the constant turning to explore during the dungeon crawling made me motion sick... I'd recommend the game to people from the short bit I played, but people with motion sickness should be wary of it. Still a little disappointed I won't get to meet all the girls, but I don't want to get nauseous while playing

I love this game a lot, but it's very hard to recommend at full price. The story is not anything special but it is fun, and I really like the conversations between the girls and the main guy, but there's too many weird design decisions that drags the combat down (which is what you're going to do the most considering the dungeons are really long), which is why I can't just say this game is good and leave it at that. It's very fun, but it's very clunky, and if you don't have the patience for it, it's just gonna annoy the hell out of you. Common enemies have way too much health, most of the encounters take way too long and you're going to do them a lot because the random encounter rate is very high. Weapons have durability and break too fast, and repairing them is very annoying. I do like the Exponential Exploitation system in battles. You have a multiplier that starts at 1.0 at the beginning of a fight, and the multiplier goes up if you hit enemies' weaknesses. This means you can go u...

okay indie game for those who want dungeon crawl with anime girls, but expect to face several inconvenience if you want to try this. On plus side, it is unique in that there are many unique and funnily designed enemies, something rare in anime dungeon crawlers since they usually come from Japan. Different culture tropes rather than usual animal tropes(though this game also contains lots of it) can be found here, which sets this apart from translated Japanese games. Also, English VA is also more appreciable since it doesn't have translation problem as well. However, the game system for player's convenience is somewhat lacking. You can't change equipment in base camp(you have to go to dungeon for that), and weapon type(sword/bow/spear/etc) isn't clearly explained in description(this is an especially issue for me since I'm not native English speaker), and you can't even get basic item(potion/escape rope/flashlight/etc) easily since there is no shop. Also, whole weapon durability system, ...

It's good but not great. Dungeon crawling and battling is decent. First you'll need to dig through the sound settings after half an hour of dialog all while you blow your ears out with not great music. The reason you'll have to do that torture is the main menu won't save your sound settings. Dialog is way too long with meh substance. You'll spend anywhere between 5-20 min till you end up just holding the skip button. Durability on weapons decay per hit so it's a constant loot finding/replacing game. I'm not a fan of the magic in this game. Seems underwhelming especially since you need the mp to heal yourself. It's like sacrificing how far you can get in the dungeon for something that doesn't pack a punch. Update: As you burn through equipment I've noticed it's also really hard to navigate equipping new items. You can't see the items stats that they're currently wearing. Most of the item menus are really bad plus weapon decay mixes in with it. Update2: OMG The menu will make you r...

Zombie waifus and dungeon crawling what more can a man need. Overall its a pretty fun little game that is quite girthy if you try for all the ends. Characters are fun and gameplay is fun most of the times with a few minor inconveniences. Overall id say its worth it.

‘Undead Darlings’ is a DRPG/Visual Novel developed by Mr. Tired Media and published by Sekai Games. It is available digitally for the Switch, PS4, Steam and GOG. The story is about Reggie, a survivor named Buck, and the several girls he meets(Pearl, Jordan, Kairi, Summer, Cici and Emily), who are affected by a zombie plague that has spread through the world but retain still their humanity(called ‘half-zombies’ by the official description), and taking a cure for the zombification left behind by Reggie’s father somewhere safe that they hope can mass produce it to cure them and the rest of the world. As in other DRPGs, battles are mostly random but also have fixed encounters, shown as Green, Purple or Red(for bosses) Muffins, like in the logo above, and the battles themselves are pretty fast paced. Each character’s stats and skills are balanced so they each are unique and have a kind of role(even if some skills are shared between a few of them). For example, Summer is more ...

This game is delightful, with one glaring exception. Reggie, the MC, is 100% a chud and has entirely contemptible dialogue. Otherwise though 9/10 would date all of these zombies again
