About This Game

Story

In a world full of stories, creatures, and ancient magical ruins left behind by time, you play as Frey Modnos.

While you have just joined Goldmoon's guard, they are being overwhelmed by creature attacks. A man named Antus has apparently summoned them to keep the guard busy while he tries to drain a powerful magical liquid called Cahertis. But he is always one step ahead of the guard.

Investigate the corruption within the guard and attempt to stop Antus and his evil forces in order to free the continent of Athara.

Game system

  • Cahertis offers many quests and side stories. Join guilds and build up your reputation with the people of Athara to get more services.
  • Take care of your weapons and equipment, repair them, enchant them, or buy more powerful ones. Cahertis offers more than 400 weapons and armours with different effects.
  • Improve your abilities by increasing your level in various Masteries:
      • Lockpicking: Allows you to open locked chests and doors, which are becoming more and more resistant.
      • Herbalism: Collect better plants to make more powerful potions.
      • Pickpocketing: Search the pockets of Athara's inhabitants for longer without getting caught.
      • Fishing: Find rarer fish with better bonuses.
      • Crafting: Make more items, potions and scrolls by collecting recipe books.
      • And more (Negotiation, Repairer, or magic skills to open sealed passages).
  • Complete the bestiary to learn the resistances and weaknesses of the creatures.
  • Unlock various outfits for Frey.

Battle system

  • Develop your combat skills in a turn-based strategy.
  • Choose among 10 physical classes, 5 magical classes, or merge them to get one of 50 hybrid classes.
  • Recruit over 20 companions to fight alongside you. Equip them and organize your team of 4 fighters according to their classes to obtain the synergy of your choice.
  • Develop your own combos using stat-enhancing abilities while preventing the opponent from penalizing you.
  • Consume your Rage or Mana as a resource to use powerful skills.
  • Generate Fury each turn and consume it to improve the performance of your next skill.

This is a preliminary review from 32 hours of game play so far. I will update it as I play. Overall: The game feels a bit like Baldur's Gate and a JRPG had a baby. This is a good thing in my opinion. The game is pretty tough, I am playing on extreme mode, and it definitely keeps you on your toes. Pros: 1. The mapping is quite good, a lot of it feels organic and interesting. 2. Feels quite open from the start of the game. You can find tough optional bosses and such pretty early on even if you can't handle them yet. 3. Mechanics make the world feel more interesting - lockpicking, digging, reputation, outfits, etc. give the game a fun and more consequential feel. 4. The world feels tough early on, Tip: buy armor before attempting the first forest and running into wolves. 5. A boat load of side quests. 6. Lots of different classes to choose from. 7. You find bits of interesting gear from quests, monster drops, stealing, and at the bottom of merchant lists early on. Cons: 1. M...

Despite a few initial buggy issues, the developer has been quick to respond and address any problems. I'm still very early into the game, but I'm enjoying the gameplay/skill building, which thus far doesn't feel like typical RPGMaker fare. Looks good so far; will update when I'm further along. --Adam *** Update: Just finished the game. For the price it was definitely a good value. I played it on regular difficulty (not a big fan of hit point bloat for the sake of it). I didn't overly grind everything--ended up finishing the game with characters just a bit into the 100 level range. I liked that you could pick up new companions who offered either new weapons or skills. Overall for an indy title the game was good and the engine changes felt different enough (the graphics in particularly) for those of us oversaturated by RPGMaker fare.

You start as a premade character called Frey who has no class and can later specialise and re-specialize if desired. You explore the towns and wilderness with enemies spawning on you from time to time. Each map has an enemy level so no scaling based on your level. Quests are your standard go there do or bring this with not much choice in most cases but in some you decide whether to spare your enemy etc. so I would not say it is completely on rails. You can feel the game is translated into english so some the text is not always smooth. Also there is no mouse control, you control all with just the keyboard and you play in a window you can maximise but no fullscreen. Still the game is entertaining and has a rather complex combat in terms of how many classes and abilities you can have.
