First impressions of Tartapolis? Not great. For a start, after an hour's "play" (I use the word somewhat loosely) I see very little evidence of it being much of a Metroidvania. There's no map, the world is entirely black-and-white — so visually-distinctive landmarks are few and far between — and the combat so far was awful, hampered by poor controls, no controller remapping, and a general lack of responsiveness. The art and aesthetic are great to look at, but leave a lot to be desired when actually playing. There are contextual text prompts along the bottom of the screen to interact with stuff all over the place, but you're never sure exactly WHAT you're interacting with. It feels a lot more like a point-and-click adventure in terms of pacing, and I just don't think that's a good fit for a Metroidvania — assuming the game hasn't just been entirely mis-marketed and actually it isn't a Metroidvania at all. I didn't mind the pacing at first, but it became more of an annoyance aft...

I really enjoying Tartapolis as far. The city is beautiful, the lore & story is really immersing! I want to explore the game more, to gain better knowledge about this city and history of Richard as well!
I cannot describe how awesome and "different" this game is. The story is rich and really thought-provoking. There are some gameplay elements that are clunky but it's really worth to try this game.
Criminally underrated! The artstyle is great, there's plenty of RPG elements, the combat is fun - and I quite like the lack of map, as everything combined together reminds me on games from 80ies, where you either drew your own maps or you just memorized things. You have weapons to which you can add attachments, you have your own pipe for which you can mix liquids to smoke, there's office upgrades, weapon unlocks, etc - and most of the stuff gives you some sort of stat boost. My advice to devs - stop dropping its price so low! The only reason I kept not buying it is because I was judging what to expect from the price point, and when you sell your game for 50c, it makes me think I'm buying something way worse than it actually is.
I really like what Tartapolis tries to be but honestly it is a very janky and poorly made game in almoust every aspect. It looks bad, the art is very simplistic and repetitive. Sound design is a joke (you interact with a female character and hear a man's voice saying "hello", and when you fire a pistol it sounds like someone's kicking a pillow). Combat is terrible, most enemies just slowly crawl at you while you shoot them down one by one. There is a meele combat too but it makes no sence cause enemies hit like trucks and the most common enemy in the game seems to be unkillable by melee and endlessly respawns. Game has a very comlex RPG system but it is pointless with such a combat, LOL. Finally the protagonist is a weird and ugly human with a face of a bulldog, how can anyone enjoy playing a creature like this. Sorry but nope, I spent 4 hours nearly forcing myself to play it further and it was getting worse and worse all the time. I also noticed that most positive reviews of this ga...
I like this game. I'm looking forward to carrying on, exploring the city, and completing quests. I did read the dev response to another review where there was discussion of a map being put in. Do I have to find the map first? Or did the map not get put into the game yet? That would be my one disappointment so far. Not having a map. If a dev could respond and lemme know what's up with that, it would be appreciated. Cool game though.
